All You Need to Know About High-End Lighting in 2019

High-end lighting can mean different things to different people. It is all about presentation and creating uniqueness. The most concealed and understated tool at your disposal is luxury lighting. It can emphasize the best qualities of a space and it can conceal the worst.

I: Introduction to high-end lighting:

What defines luxurious lighting?

High-end lighting can mean different things to different people. It can be defined by:

  • Style. There are certain styles that, due to their more ornate detailing, are considered innately luxurious like for example Art Deco. But that doesn’t mean that simpler, more modern forms cannot also feel luxurious and high-end, especially if they are made well.
  • Unique light fixtures that are like artwork. There are those creations that defy easy categorization. The sense that a lamp is one-of-a-kind and carefully crafted creates a sense of exclusivity and, as a result, luxury.
  • Finishes/materials. Gold leaf embellished metal work, fine crystal. There is no question that luxurious materials result in a luxurious-feeling piece of lighting.
  • Scale. For some, nothing says luxury lighting like a grand, oversized high-end chandelier.
  • Sparkle. Or perhaps the sense of luxury comes from the quality of the light that a fixture puts out. A magical, sparkling aura extends the sense of luxury around the entire room.

II. Why your luxurious home needs high-end lighting

It is all about presentation and creating uniqueness. The most concealed and understated tool at your disposal is luxury lighting. It can emphasize the best qualities of a space and it can conceal the worst. It is a hidden tool which if used skilfully can add a touch of magic not previously realized.

Designer lighting adds a wow factor to the scheme which can be changed at the touch of a button to change the mood and atmosphere to suit the client’s requirements.

III. Luxury Lighting Trends in 2019

Lighting is a very important aspect of every home. It can make all the difference in a room, bringing it all together. This year the trends are towards making your lamps a key element instead of a complementary piece.

Brass

Brass lamps are great additions to a home. Golden is both bright and luxurious.

Sleek lines

Simpler lines are becoming more and more popular among interior designers. Even though complex designs are beautiful, this year it’s all about simple designs full of character.

Mid-century modern

Retro is making a comeback, but this time it looks slightly different! Think about the 60’s but richer materials, alternative designs with a contemporary twist.

Floorlamps

Not that they were really ever out of style, but this year, floor lamps are definitely trendy!

Landscape-oriented lighting

Linear ceiling fixtures that span the width of the room are feeling fresh as opposed to the traditional vertical drop. Look for clean lined, simple fixtures.

White and colored marble bases:

White marble made a comeback a few years ago in lighting via the extremely popular arc floor lamps with the marble bases. But several new collections of table and floor lamps that are in production for 2019 use different colors like gray and blackish-green in addition to white marble. So the classic white Carrara lamp base isn’t going anywhere, but there are going to be more colorful stone options available.

Sculptural shapes

Lighting is becoming more and more decorative, even to the point that the fixtures are almost looked at as art. Sculptural pieces or lamps can really be a statement piece in the overall design of a room. We will start to see more natural silhouettes and organic forms when it comes to lighting.

LED:

This has been around for a while now, but every year this new technology gets better and better.

Incandescent bulbs are very wasteful. Most of the power is wasted in the form of heat. This is why there has been a big push to change to other more efficient and environmentally friendly forms of lighting. More and more brands are changing to high-end LED lighting for it’s money and power saving properties, which is far more efficient and lasts for much longer than incandescent bulbs. Another advantage of LED lighting is the variety of styles available. You can get LED lamps in multiple colors, brightness, shapes and so on. They are a great choice when you need a unique design for your home.

Wireless Technology

Many brands are starting to apply wireless technology to high-end lighting design, creating new solutions that can be easily moved inside spaces and require no visible cabling.

Especially in high-end outdoor lighting, more and more rechargeable, battery operated lights are available.

IV. Caspaiou Design Tips in Using High-end lighting

Living Room

Light three of the four corners, focusing one of those lights on an object (art, a plant, a striking chair). Use a combination of table lamps and floor lamps, some with a downward glow and some that shine upward. Allow for reading in as many seats as possible. If you have a chandelier or pendant light, put it on a dimmer.

This living room designed by Caspaiou is the perfect example of our vision on mixing different high-end lighting options to create a unique and personal atmosphere.

The porcelain artwork is a focal point, lit up by a down lighter while a playful “crack in the wall” light was integrated into the wall leaving visitors to wonder: is it a lamp or is it art?

The floor lamp and bronze downlight were carefully chosen, not just for their functionality but also for their sculptural quality.

Dining Room

To draw people in, make the table the brightest spot in the room. Use a chandelier or a pendant above the table, and put it on a dimmer. Elsewhere in the room, indirect lighting is best—it’s relaxing and flattering. Give the space a subtle glow with a pair of small table lamps on a sideboard or matching lights on the wall above.

Kitchen

Focus on overhead lighting (on a dimmer that you can crank up when cooking), and add lower sources to illuminate work surfaces. Use pendants, under-cabinet lights, or a sturdy table lamp.

Caspaiou selected this vintage inspired pendant to add a luxurious feeling to this open plan kitchen and to make the kitchen an integral part of the living room.

Bedroom

Aim for a cozy atmosphere: Place reading lamps or sconces by the bed.

On a low table, include a small, intimate lamp with a tinted low-wattage bulb to mimic candlelight.

Use floorlamps to light up corners and make sure the central ceiling light is on a dimmer.

Bathroom

The best choice for applying makeup is sidelights, such as a pair of sconces flanking the mirror. An overhead light helps fill in any shadows on your face and also fully illuminates the room (important when cleaning).
